The Rides Lead will assist in the supervision of the Rides Hosts working throughout the amusement park. This position directly supports the Rides Manager with efficient operation of the department which provides a positive guest experience.

This position requires strong leadership skills to answer questions and help coach and train other Ride Operators and Attendants for the operating season. This position will also conduct daily audits to ensure the park’s safety and operating policies are being properly followed.

Roles & Responsibilities

Assist with the daily supervision of the Rides team and any other assigned departments

Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Adventureland’s core values

Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned Hosts

Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all rides positions and backfill these positions when needed

Participate in new‑hire orientation and training activities for all assigned Hosts

Ensure that all required meal and other breaks are being given in accordance with Iowa law

Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities if needed

Departmental Duties

Ensure a smooth and continuous operation of all assigned rides and attractions

Provides direct support to other rides Hosts by making rounds throughout the park to check on their needs

Provide coverage so that Hosts may take bathroom breaks

Maintain a vast knowledge of all rides in the park and can jump in to assist or operate, when necessary

Oversees guest feedback and escalates complaints or issues to the proper authorities, when appropriate

Enforce Park policies, ride restrictions and ride recommendations

Ensure safe operation of the ride by always adhering to standard operating procedures and established trainings

Report rides‑related issues and failures to Park Leadership and Maintenance teams in a prompt manner

Maintain constant vigilance to proactively identify potential hazards and informs park leadership of any concerns

Protect guest belongings, turns in lost and found items as soon as time allows

Promptly notify the security team or the park operator of Host and guest injuries or emergencies

All other duties assigned by leadership

Education & Experience

There is no minimum education requirement.

1+ season of work experience in the Rides Department is required. Previous ride operation experience from other Amusement/Theme Park employers will also be considered.

All Rides Hosts must go through the International Ride Operator Certification (iROC) course as a part of the training. Successful course completion is required for this position. There is no cost to the Host for the course.

Languages
Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English, Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws

Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Ability to comply with all uniform policies

Must possess safety‑oriented mindset and understand the importance of complying with all Federal, State, and local regulations regarding ride operation

Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions

Must be guest‑focused and also work well with other Hosts and supervisors

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist, kneel, bend, or squat for long periods of time

Ability to reach above shoulders throughout the workday

Ability to remain on feet for majority of the workday

Ability to climb or descend stairs for some coasters, rides, and attractions

Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more

Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away

Working Conditions

Frequent interaction a variety of motorized and chain‑driven rides and attractions

Frequent exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions

Frequent exposure to constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, vibrations, and heavily populated environments
