Position Description
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a temporary GIS intern(s) with a minimum of 10 hours/week and a maximum of 40 hours/week.
Internship Description
This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon knowledge gained through college coursework to perform the principal assignment and projects of this internship.
The intern will work directly with the Anne Arundel County OIT GIS Staff in developing web mapping products, data development, and quality control procedures. The intern will learn Esri Enterprise products such as Portal, SDE, versioning, Dashboards, StoryMaps, Python scripting, and geoprocessing and develop an understanding of how GIS is utilized throughout an organization for analysis and decision making.
Currently filling for Summer 2026.
Location and Hours
Location: Heritage Office Complex, 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Schedule flexibility is available, up to 40 hours a week)
Responsibilities
Develop web mapping products in Esri Enterprise.
Assist with data development and quality control procedures.
Support the GIS team with spatial analysis techniques.
Create dashboards and StoryMaps.
Write Python scripts for geoprocessing tasks.
Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate student in Geography, GIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Basic understanding of Esri Enterprise products including ArcGIS Pro and Portal.
Dependable transportation.
Strong analytical, diagnostic, and spatial analysis skills.
Attention to detail and strong time‑management skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
