JR100439The Technician is required to troubleshoot and repair a variety of mainly mechanical and some electrical equipment in a specialized industrial environment.
As a member of the Preventative Maintenance team, this position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters to include various sub-types of mechanical systems, maintenance activities, and light fabrication. This person will perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair as well as provide technical support for all phases of wind tunnel operation. This work will be of average to considerable difficulty in the accomplishment of a variety of mechanical maintenance actions.Sample systems and hardware include, but are not limited to:* Unique mechanical systems for various sizes and types of wind tunnels and their related support equipment* Large electrical motors and ac/dc motor generators.* Various sized air compressors (screw or piston) with pressure ratings from 0-3000 psi air dryers both low and high pressure and high pressure, pressure vessels* Lifting devices such as Overhead Cranes and/or forklift trucks* oil pumps* water pumps* cooling towers and systems* high pressure air systems* vacuum systems* electric and hydraulic actuators* hydraulic pumps and control systems## Education and Experience## Successful candidate will demonstrate broad skills in an industrial/maintenance environment where duties change on a daily basis and often include activities that are highly customized and take an innovative approach.
General knowledge areas include but are not limited to: mechanical, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, cooling, high pressure systems, etc.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 10+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or manufacturing environment; or 15+ years’ direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance environment.* Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or Associate's Degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school, a plus but not required.* Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.* Ability to read/write work orders, instructions, daily reports, machine manuals, etc.* Ability to receive and relate orders/information using various communication devices.* Ability to operate common industrial trucks and lifting devices such as forklifts, genie lifts, scissor lift, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, etc. a plus.## Work Environment and Physical Demands## The work environment characteristics & physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.* This job is located in an industrial environment where large machinery, tools, industrial supplies, raw materials, etc. are all common.* Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when certain tunnels are in operation or a specific task requires the use of loud tools.* Frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.* Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.* Ability to perform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing and extending arms* Ability to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 8-hour shift* Ability to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes* Ability to climb, move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms* Can bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout your entire shift
