Description
The Caregiver/CNA is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care and assistance to residents and tenants living in assisted living settings. This includes support with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting a safe and clean environment, observing and reporting health changes, and working alongside other departments including dietary, housekeeping, and activities. The position serves a diverse client group including but not limited to individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, mental illness, physical disabilities, terminal illnesses, and frail elderly populations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Resident Care & Support:
Assist residents and tenants with all
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
including:
Bathing, grooming, dressing
Toileting and incontinence care
Mobility and transfers
Eating and hydration
Medication reminders (if trained and delegated)
Encourage and assist residents in maintaining their independence and dignity.
Monitor for and promptly report
changes in physical, emotional, or mental condition
to supervisory staff.
Review and follow each resident’s/tenant’s
Individualized Service Plan (ISP)
prior to assuming care responsibilities.
Responsible for accurate charting and record keeping.
Housekeeping, Safety & Environment:
Support a
clean, safe, and home-like environment
by:
Performing light housekeeping duties (e.g., making beds, tidying rooms, laundry, basic cleaning)
Assisting with disinfecting and sanitation practices in resident areas
Reporting safety hazards and maintenance concerns immediately
Follow
infection control
and standard precaution procedures.
Support to Other Departments:
Assist the
Dietary Department
with:
Meal setup, service, and clean-up
Encouraging fluid and nutritional intake
Support the
Activities Department
by:
Encouraging and escorting residents to activities
Assisting with activity setup and resident engagement
Partner with all departments to ensure smooth operations and resident satisfaction.
Training & Mentorship:
Serve as a
mentor and trainer
to new caregiving staff, demonstrating tasks and best practices.
Coach and support new hires during onboarding to promote confidence, competence, and team cohesion.
Communicate clearly with supervisors regarding trainee progress and development needs.
Confidentiality & Compliance:
Maintain resident
privacy and confidentiality at all times
in compliance with
HIPAA
regulations and company policies.
Access resident information only as needed to provide care or complete job responsibilities.
Report any suspected confidentiality or privacy breaches to your supervisor immediately.
Other Responsibilities:
Attend mandatory meetings and ongoing in-service opportunities. Annual requirements for continuing education must be met in accordance with DHS regulations.
Actively promotes a healthy approach by communicating, interacting, and working cooperatively to meet resident/tenants needs; respond promptly and positively to requests for assistance.

Follow proper protocol during emergency situations.
Support a dignified, respectful, and caring atmosphere with residents/tenants, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be 16 years or older.
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred but not required.
Completion of required CBRF core trainings:

First Aid/Choking
Resident Rights
Experience working with older adults or persons with disabilities strongly preferred.
Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented attitude.
Ability to read, write and speak in English.
Flexible and available to work beyond regularly scheduled hours, as well as weekends and holidays as needed.
Ability to multitask and prioritize
