Electrician/General Maintenance Repair Person

Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for an electrician/general maintenance repair person. Scheduled hours are Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with additional hours as needed.

About the Role
The electrician/general maintenance repair position installs, inspects, tests, maintains, repairs, and replaces electrical circuits, components, controls, fixtures, appliances, and equipment using necessary hand tools and testing instruments. This position also provides general maintenance and repair services to buildings, fixtures, utilities, and vehicles; performs installations, inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, adjustment, repair, and replacement of plumbing, heating, water, gas, fire protection, and sewage systems; fuels, maintains fluid levels, and conducts general safety inspections of campus vehicles; and repairs and maintains gym exercise equipment and other mechanical devices on campus including bleachers, sprinklers, fire alarms, and generators. This role also makes repair arrangements, orders equipment and supplies, and keeps maintenance records.

Position Qualifications
Successful applicants must have:

High school diploma or equivalent, minimum of two years of general maintenance experience, and minimum of three years of electrician experience.

General knowledge of maintenance of heating, air conditioning, steam, condensate, and chilled water lines and carpentry; basic knowledge of safety checks and minor repairs to vehicles and small equipment; and knowledge of and demonstrated skill in use of materials and tools used in general maintenance and advanced electrical work.

Ability to read and understand blueprints and national and local electrical codes.

Full range of body motion, including lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; ability to operate motorized equipment and hand and power tools; and ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environments.

Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations.

Self‑starter, team player, and ability to understand and follow directions.
