
Machine Operator I (Night Shift)

Position Overview
Responsible for operation and proficient understanding of packaging machinery including palletizers, depalletizers, strappers, stretch wrappers, forklifts, and overall flow of production. Operation of production machines involves performing short‑cycle, repetitive, and control operations of equipment, while maintaining set patterns of products to attain high‑quality output that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Maintains standard machine operation and accurately records production. Communicates production information at shift change.
Knows and practices safe and proper start-up and shut-down procedures for each machine.
Performs minor adjustments to machinery to ensure smooth, continued machine operation.
Has authority to stop machines/production for machine problems or breakdowns, and communicates them to Production Coordinator or Maintenance.
Inspects product for quality defects. Has authority to stop production due to quality issues, including raw materials.
Maintains housekeeping of all assigned areas. This includes applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals. Reports daily on Master Cleaning Schedule.
Forklift operator certified, and performs daily safety and operational checks, and operates forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
Transports finished product from the production area to warehouse. Unloads, moves and stores incoming materials; checks identification, reports shortages or damaged materials; arranges material in FIFO order.
Reports daily production scrap in computer program.
Actively participates in Quality training and Good Manufacturing Practices to assist in continuous improvement of plant operations.
Follows all established safety rules, guidelines, and completes safety training as assigned. Understands and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co‑workers and managers/supervisors. Properly uses all personal protective equipment.
Performs other related duties as directed by the Production Coordinators and/or Management.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Some post‑secondary education preferred (e.g., Technical or Vocational education).
Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Other Requirements
Able to pass forklift skills test.
Ability to recognize and understand numbers and values and accurately enter the information into an online database. A strong mathematical ability is essential.
Ability to visually distinguish fine variations in color and other product defects.
Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on the situation at hand.
Ability to efficiently and effectively use a computer and related software.
Ability to work all shifts and required overtime.
