
Associate Medical Staff – Puerto Rico (Bilingual)

Opportunity
Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, administering and supervising approved immunizations, providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, collecting plasma from donors with venipuncture while monitoring the pheresis process, and performing health screening procedures.
You will report to the Center Manager for day‑to‑day activities, and for medical related questions, to the Center Medical Director.
Role
Conduct confidential and effective donor interviews to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma; perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors.
Assess results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donor suitability, while assessing signs and symptoms that may disqualify a donor.
Respond to medically related questions from staff in conjunction with the Center Medical Director or physician, and provide information to staff on medical issues.
Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results; refer donors to community facilities for follow‑up and counseling; review test results and determine continued donor suitability; maintain knowledge of and apply rules regarding four‑month approvals and grace periods.
Explain Informed Consent to donors, as required by SOP, ensuring donors understand procedures, hazards, adverse events, immunization schedules, and have opportunity to refuse participation; obtain signature and date certifying informed consent.
Handle medical emergencies at the center by providing routine care per SOP, and elevate situations to the Center Physician or local medical service providers as required; ensure emergency kits supplies are present and up‑to‑date.
Manage employee hepatitis B immunization program, including administration of immunizations per licensure or certification; understand hyper‑immune programs and oversee donor immunization programs; review antibody titer results as required.
Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection process, including donor set‑up, venipuncture, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect; collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
Perform equipment calibrations, verify maintenance per SOP, and respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues; use PDA to record incidents during the pheresis process.
Conduct donor screening, including assessment of self‑administered health history, basic medical questions, and screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature; perform finger stick for capillary tube sample; complete hematocrit and total protein testing; accurately record donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and stock operating supplies; follow all Health Safety & Environmental and OSHA policies; promote safety; conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
Be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Your Skills and Experience
Education
Active licensure from nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program, or medical school required; OR
Completion of foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school and licensure as a physician.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care environment or one year of clinical experience from a vocational or nursing institution.
Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or another regulated environment preferred.
Ability to perform and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefits of plasma donation programs.
