Summary
The incumbent provides social work and case management services for Veterans with behavioral health diagnoses as an integral part of the outpatient Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team. Responsibilities include psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, and evidence‑based psychotherapy (CBT, DBT, ACT, etc.).
Qualifications
U.S. citizenship required; non‑citizens may be considered if no qualified citizens are available.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE‑accredited school.
State licensure or certification at the master’s level required for GS‑11 and above; licensure may be waived for GS‑9 candidates pending completion of state prerequisites.
Demonstrated experience working with Veterans and diverse populations, including psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence‑based psychotherapies.
Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, medications, and terminology.
Skill in coordinating community and VA resources and making appropriate referrals.
Experience with evidence‑based or evidence‑informed therapy preferred.
Duties
Provide triage assessment, crisis intervention, brief counseling, and individual/group psychotherapy for Veterans with a broad spectrum of behavioral health diagnoses.
Assist same‑day access for Veterans seeking care and conduct assertive community outreach for suicide prevention.
Set clinical care goals in collaboration with patients; monitor progress and work to achieve outcomes.
Serve collaboratively on the BHIP team and assist with consult management.
Make referrals to community and VA resources and advocate for timely services and benefits.
Document work in the electronic medical record and maintain timely reporting.
Participate in performance‑improvement activities and track trends.
Provide education and consultation to staff, students, patients, and families regarding programs.
Attend appropriate team meetings and coordinate care with providers and team members.
Work Schedule & Compensation
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
Competitive salary with regular increases and potential for above‑minimum step rate.
Paid time off: 37‑50 days per year (13‑26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays).
Parental leave: up to 12 weeks paid after 12 months of employment for birth, adoption, or foster care placement.
Child‑care subsidy: up to 25% of eligible childcare costs for employees with family income below $144,000 after 60 days of employment.
Retirement: traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution.
Telework available (ad‑hoc); position is not virtual.
