The Gifted Coordinator is a dynamic, collaborative, and thoughtful leader who matches an innovative vision for advanced learning with strong systems to ensure each gifted student in Mason City Schools is challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. Guided by Mason City Schools' Big Rocks of Culture, Inclusive Excellence, and Personalized Learning, the Coordinator leads the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the district's gifted identification and service model.

The Coordinator provides strategic leadership and oversight for the district's gifted education program, including identification, service delivery, Written Education Plans (WEPs), high‑quality professional development, and alignment of advanced learning opportunities across grades K‑12. The Coordinator ensures compliance with all Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) requirements related to gifted education and collaborates closely with Learning Experience Supervisors, building administrators, and instructional staff to provide equitable services for gifted learners.

Responsibilities

PROVIDES LEADERSHIP, STRATEGIC DIRECTION, and OVERSIGHT

in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s gifted education program.

DESIGNS, IMPLEMENTS, AND CONTINUALLY IMPROVES COHERENT SYSTEMS

for gifted identification and services, including universal screening, referral processes, assessment practices, and acceleration pathways.

UTILIZES DATA AND SYSTEMS THINKING

to evaluate program effectiveness, monitor student access and participation, and drive continuous improvement.

PROVIDES INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND CLEAR COMMUNICATION TO STAFF , supporting high‑quality gifted instruction through coaching, modeling, and application of best practices.

COMMUNICATES EFFECTIVELY WITH FAMILIES

regarding identification, service options, placement decisions, and student progress.

SUPPORTS CONSISTENT DECISION‑MAKING FOR IDENTIFICATION, PLACEMENT, AND SERVICE PATHWAYS , ensuring clarity and equitable access.

COORDINATES AND OVERSEES GIFTED ASSESSMENT PROCESSES , ensuring accurate, timely administration and communication of results.

LEADS AND MONITORS THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WRITTEN EDUCATION PLANS (WEPs) , ensuring quality and alignment with student needs.

DESIGNS, COORDINATES, AND MONITORS HIGH‑QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (HQPD)

aligned with state requirements and district priorities.

MAINTAINS A CONSISTENT AND VISIBLE PRESENCE ACROSS BUILDINGS , supporting implementation and continuous improvement.

PARTNERS WITH DISTRICT AND BUILDING LEADERS

to refine service models that provide appropriate levels of challenge, acceleration, and enrichment.

COLLABORATES WITH DISTRICT TEAMS

to integrate gifted services within the broader instructional framework.

ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS

to build shared understanding, trust, and support.

MANAGES THE GIFTED PROGRAM BUDGET , ensuring responsible stewardship of district funds.

COORDINATES AND MONITORS EMIS REPORTING

related to gifted identification and services.

ENSURES COMPLIANCE

with all state laws and regulations related to gifted education.

ENGAGES IN ONGOING LEARNING AND REFLECTION , staying current with research and best practices.

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED .

Ideal Qualifications

Gifted Intervention Specialist license or endorsement required.

Administrative license preferred, but not required.

Minimum of five years of educational experience, including work with gifted learners.

Strong knowledge of local, state, and national trends, research, and best practices in supporting gifted learners.

Strong knowledge of Ohio’s gifted identification processes, service models, and compliance requirements.

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and continuously improve systems and programs at a district level.

Strong background in differentiated instruction, acceleration, and advanced learning practices.

Experience leading adult learning, coaching, and professional development across a K‑12 system.

Ability to use data and systems thinking for decision‑making and program evaluation.

Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across roles and departments.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.

Outstanding organizational and facilitation skills.

Commitment to equity and ensuring access to advanced learning opportunities for all students.

Reporting
Reports to: Learning Experience Supervisors

Terms of Employment
205 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
