Job Description
Position #HHHSS23098: Resource Room Teacher (1.0 FTE Con). Posting Dates: 04/16/2027 - 04/27/2026. Location: Horse Heaven Hills Middle School. Required Qualifications

Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education

Satisfactory Evaluations

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of experience working with students individually, in small and large groups and with students with different disabling conditions including behavior disorders.

Knowledge of and ability to apply District policy and procedures.

Evidence of successful teaching experience with middle level special education students, within the last five years.

Experience and training in selection and utilization of varied teaching styles and methods to meet student needs.

Experience and/or training in:

Implementing "in classroom" models of classroom special education services (inclusive, integrated model of instruction).

Team teaching and the sharing of facilities and resources.

Evidence of successful experience supervising and working with a paraeducator in the classroom.

Experience using adopted building curricula: Language of Literature, Connected Math Program, LANGUAGE program.

Punctual and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

Organize IEP meetings and provide appropriate assessments of students.

Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with IEP Team members for a wide range of disabled students.

Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.

Maintain proper records and facilitate necessary paperwork and forms.

Communicate on a regular and frequent basis with parents and teachers.

Assume responsibility for productive use of a classroom paraprofessional.

Consult with and work closely with regular education teachers and other specialists in a team situation about the educational programming of special services students.

Select and utilize teaching styles, methods and activities that meet the needs of individual students.

Adapt and adjust curriculum: manage time effectively.

Plan for and accommodate different learning styles.

Work effectively with students individually, in small and in large groups.

Work cooperatively in a team teaching situation sharing facilities and resources.

Appreciate the confidential nature of his/her work.

Work with students in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.

Experience and/or training to work with and understand students with ADHD and other associated disorders.

Experience in teaming with general classroom teachers, special education teachers, IEP Teams, and community agencies to develop programs for students with behavior disorders.

Successful experience in supervising and working with a paraeducator as classroom support personnel.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Mobility: regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

Sense: required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds, communicate effectively in person and over the telephone, taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Lifting: able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead.

Work environment: may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level moderate. Must work outdoors in wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +.
