SUMMARY
To plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive choral music program that provides high-quality instructional and performance opportunities for students. The program will include a well-rounded curriculum focused on vocal performance, music literacy, and music theory, while also directing a competitive show choir program. The teacher will create a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and performance potential while promoting a positive and inclusive culture.
EDUCATION / LICENSE / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in music education or related field
Hold a valid Indiana Teacher’s license in Vocal/General Music
Demonstrated experience in choral instruction and performance
Experience in show choir or competitive performance programs preferred
Such additional qualifications as the Board or the State of Indiana shall require
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
Develop schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with state and national standards
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
Provide a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet diverse student needs
Deliver a well-rounded instructional program including:
Vocal technique and performance skills
Music theory, sight-reading, and music literacy
Music history and stylistic interpretation
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
Use relevant technology to support instruction
Observe, assess, and evaluate student performance and development
Assign and grade classwork, homework, and assessments; provide timely feedback
Encourage and monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Program Management and Operations
Organize and direct concerts, performances, competitions and school/community events
Manage program budgets, fundraising efforts, and student fees in accordance with school policies
Work collaboratively with booster organizations, ensuring transparency and student-centered practices
Maintain accurate records related to participation, eligibility, and financial obligations
Ensure all participants meet academic eligibility requirements
Student Support and Culture
Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
Maintain discipline in accordance with school policies
Provide student support, encouragement, and guidance
Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive program culture
Promote leadership, teamwork, and accountability among students
Collaboration and Communication
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and program expectations
Participate in department meetings, school meetings, and parent conferences
Collaborate with junior high and high school music programs to promote program continuity and growth
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and school improvement efforts
Professional Responsibilities
Stay current with developments in music education, show choir, and instructional practices
Participate in professional development opportunities
Maintain professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct
Comply with all district policies, state laws, and school procedures
Show Choir / Extracurricular Responsibilities (Stipend-Based)
Direct and manage a competitive show choir program
Develop show concepts, themes, and music selection aligned with competitive standards
Secure and coordinate choreographers to support show design and performance
Coordinate the arrangement and/or acquisition of music for performances
Secure and coordinate musicians/band members for rehearsals and performances
Develop and implement rehearsal schedules, including before/after school, evenings, and weekends
Prepare students for local, regional, and national competitions
Oversee costumes, staging, and visual design to ensure a cohesive performance
Organize and supervise travel, competitions, and performance logistics
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and to work with both abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to speak effectively to large groups on demand. Ability to travel between school buildings, districts, and cities. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with an understanding of all district requirements and Board policies.
