Physical Education Teacher / Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
The physical education teacher is the primary instructional delivery for student health and wellness, fitness, and growth. The educator collaborates with school team members to provide strategies and support for increasing student movement and fitness within the regular classroom. The position is demanding, varied, and complex, requiring a collaborative relationship builder with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong background in physical education content, and effective, engaging teaching strategies. Coaching duties for Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach are included.

Essential Functions

Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching all learners.

Demonstrate the ability to create a student-centered classroom.

Facilitate students' physical, cognitive, social, and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels.

Provide engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for students.

Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness.

Provide maximum participation for all students; differentiate as needed to ensure all students experience success.

Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.

Develop engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials.

Provide ongoing formative feedback to students.

Demonstrate a growth mindset individually and support this development with all students.

Communicate in developmentally appropriate ways with a humane, sensitive approach that clearly conveys that every student can succeed and benefit from a physically active, healthy lifestyle.

Implement and support school-wide programs.

Collaborate with school team members to increase health and wellness, movement, and activity within the classroom.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas aligned with the school-wide behavior framework.

Provide appropriate safety instruction and conduct safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure overall safety of students.

Evaluate academic and social growth of students and keep appropriate records including report cards, attendance, checklists, and other required documentation.

Communicate with parents, counselors, and administrators about student progress.

Focus on making learning visible through effective student engagement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education: Bachelor’s degree. Must hold a valid Arkansas Teaching License with a Physical Education Endorsement.

Experience: At least one year of physical education teaching experience at the application level or student teaching.

Strong interpersonal skills: work well with diverse backgrounds, solve conflict, maintain confidentiality, listen actively, and contribute to a positive team spirit.

Ability to work with students of varying levels of readiness.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, draft simple correspondence, and respond to inquiries.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Apply common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Proficiency in database software, internet software, email, and Google Docs.

Ability to employ good judgment and work in an environment with interruptions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

Arkansas Teaching License with a Physical Education Endorsement

Position primarily performed indoors; occasional outdoor instruction and supervision required.

Requires frequent or prolonged standing, walking, and sitting; possible exposure to bodily fluids; accurate perception of sound and vision.

Potential for occasional lifting of objects weighing 15 to 25 pounds.

Evenings and extended work hours may be required.
