Job Description
Full-time, Benefits-eligible
This role will cover classroom teacher, specialist, or teaching assistant roles based on daily school needs. Duties may also include covering office assistants or supporting instruction with a classroom teacher.
Essential Functions
Serve in the absence of the classroom teacher.
Deliver the lesson plan created and left by the classroom teacher.
Meet and instruct the students in the designated locations and times.
Develop and maintain a conducive physical classroom environment within the system's resources.
Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation when requested by supervisor or absent teacher.
Encourage students to maintain high classroom behavior standards.
Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain and uphold school and county policies and procedures.
Maintain required records per law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules.
Cooperate with staff members.
Provide information and seek clarity from administration regarding questions related to students, instruction, or concerns.
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
Perform related duties as assigned by administration per school/system policies and practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students; willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques; effective communication and relationship building with students, parents, and staff; willingness to obtain CPR certification.
Education and Experience
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Priority will be given to those with prior teaching experience or eligibility for a Virginia Teaching License.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work
Duties include frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 pounds, occasional field trips, movement of students with wheelchairs, occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds, and potential attendance at conferences and meetings beyond normal hours.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary:
$17.39 to $20.70 per hour
