Position:
Head Coach – Boys Basketball (supplemental position)
Reports to:
Director of Athletics and Facilities Use
Location:
General McLane High School
Duration:
2026-2027 School Year
Functional Purpose
Working with assistant coaches, the Head Coach leads, trains, and motivates student athletes as members of the GMSD boys’ basketball team. The coach provides guided instruction in rules, techniques, and tactics to grow student athletes and enhances team performance.
Job Functions
Plan, organize, direct, and attend all practices and games.
Develop rapport with students and provide leadership; act as a model of good sportsmanship and apply fair, positive discipline.
Ensure general health and welfare of students and oversee student conduct.
Provide students with skills, tools, and knowledge to make healthy life choices on and off the court.
Build relationships with athletes, booster clubs, parents, faculty, and the community.
Manage and advise assistant coaches.
Maintain cooperation with the Principal/Athletic Director and other school personnel; communicate regularly with the Athletic Director about the program, including trips, tournaments, games, injuries, etc.
Develop system for accountability, upkeep, and protection of equipment, and inventory records; follow prescribed budget processes.
Complete paperwork, reports, and make recommendations for improvement.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience coaching or advising a specific activity.
Knowledge of rules, theory, strategy, and regulations related to the activity, including changes and developments.
Leadership and rapport-building with students; skill in organizing efficient practices and matches; verbal and written communication; student supervision; teaching good sportsmanship.
Additional Notes
Applicants must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day.
Compensation: GMEA‑contracted position; compensation based on the 2026-2027 GMEA contract.
Must complete and submit all six (6) required GMSD clearances and TB test before starting.
