The purpose of this position is to provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for developing student success in academics (e.g., Reading, Writing, Language, Math) or skills (e.g., Art, Music, Physical Education). The teacher will supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas; develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual instruction; collaborate with peers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional issues; and respond to a wide range of inquiries from students, parents, and guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

This position reports to the Site Administrator.

Essential Functions

Administers subject‑specific assessments and tests for the purpose of assessing the level of student competencies.

Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student achievements; and developing methods for improvement.

Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.

Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.

Counsels student(s) or refers student(s) to appropriate school personnel to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.

Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.

Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.

Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.

Instructs students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study.

Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.

Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g., district, staff, departmental) to convey or gather information required to perform functions.

Participates on PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.

Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.

Reports health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors) to maintain students' personal safety and comply with regulatory requirements.

Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.

Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators) to resolve issues and provide information or direction.

Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill‑based competencies include applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment and pertinent software, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose documents, and facilitate group discussions; produce analysis of situations to define issues. Specific knowledge competencies include appropriate codes, policies, regulations, and laws; age‑appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques; and methods of instruction.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use job‑related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in varied circumstances; work with data using defined processes; operate equipment with standardized methods. Ability also required to work with diverse individuals and groups; interpret guidelines independently; and engage in problem‑solving.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and utilizing resources from other work units to perform the position’s functions.

Work Environment
Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling with fine finger dexterity. The job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing, performed under some temperature extremes and exposure to injury or illness risks.

Experience
Job‑related experience is desired.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Required Testing, Certificates and Licenses
Arizona Teaching Certificate; Appropriate Certification in Core Content Area; SEI Endorsement Required.

Continuing Education/Training and Clearances
Criminal Background Clearance; Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
