Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.
Responsible for instructional planning, including writing lesson plans and preparing materials in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program.
Establish positive learning expectations, evaluate pupil progress, and maintain accurate records of achievements.
Implement instructional methods, apply contemporary principles of learning theory, and use a range of instructional materials available in the school.
Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques and prepare bulletin board and interest area displays reflecting current work.
Possess knowledge of the curriculum content relevant to the subject area and instructional level.
Participate in programs aimed at improving student attendance and promote anti‑vandalism initiatives.
Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom, on school grounds, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms consistent with the Chicago Public Schools Uniform Discipline Code.
Maintain attendance records and seating charts; encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
Conduct appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel as needed; communicate academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
Participate in in‑service meetings and professional staff meetings using pertinent information and materials.
Coordinate and attend class field trips; work in extra‑curricular and after‑school activities.
Utilize community resources to enhance learning.
Qualifications
Successful completion of all student‑teaching requirements and all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificates issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Possession of at least one valid Illinois State Board of Education teaching license: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles, and classroom and behavior‑management techniques.
Ability to modify instruction to meet diverse student needs and to collaborate with faculty, administrators, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives.
Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and sound professional judgment.
Physical ability to perform light work: occasional exertion up to 20 lbs, frequent exertion up to 10 lbs, and routine handling of objects; ability to stoop, reach, handle objects, talk, hear, and use near visual acuity.
