Job Description
General Definition of Work
The CTE Teaching as a Profession Teacher, under general supervision, performs professional work and leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. This position provides supervision to students in a variety of school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and develops, selects or modifies lesson plans to ensure student educational needs are met. The CTE Teaching as a Profession Teacher performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to classroom instruction and student supervision under the direction of the principal.

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
Develop lesson plans based on the North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards document that will cover all parts of the Teaching as a Profession course sequence
Develop lesson plans that will introduce students to, but not limited to, structure of schooling, history of education, science of teaching, art of teaching, and ethical teacher leadership
Coordinate and monitor field experiences for students at local elementary schools
Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate
Use appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative and innovative thinking capabilities of students
Coordinate CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
Work with staff and post‑secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways, which prepare students for apprenticeship, certification, community college, or university degree programs
Participate in grade‑level meetings, faculty meetings, student intervention teams, professional learning communities (PLCs) and other committees
Maintain appropriate records
Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly
Create an inclusive environment with positive communication
Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of curriculum in assigned area
Comprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
Knowledge of supplies to be used within the Teaching as a Profession classroom(s)
Knowledge of Common Core and NC Essential Standards
Skilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications
Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement
Ability to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records pertaining to school planning and strategy
Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programs
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven, rapidly changing team environment
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in education required
Valid NC Teacher License in a secondary area required
Three years minimum of classroom teaching experience required
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
