Job Description
Title:
Migrant Summer School Bus Aide (1-2 Positions Available)
Reports To:
Whole Child Administrator/Supervisor of Transportation or designee
Location of Work:
Bus Garage is located in Lawrence, Michigan
Rate of Pay:
According to the Migrant Summer Pay Scale
Hours to Work:
A minimum of 5 hours per day, 5 days per week
Classification:
Bus Aide
Job Goal(s):
The overall job goal of the VBISD Summer Migrant Bus Aide is to supervise children on the bus so the driver can devote his/her full attention to driving.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification:
Completion of State School Bus Driver Training Program required
Ability to qualify for bus driver’s license
Work Experience:
Previous experience as a school bus aide or bus driver preferred
Bilingual in Spanish/English:
Preferred
Essential Job Functions
Assure safety belts and special equipment are worn by students riding their bus.
Sweep and clean the interior of the bus as frequently as necessary to maintain cleanliness; this includes, but is not limited to, washing windows, mopping floor, dusting and wiping down seats and the driver’s area.
Discharge students from the bus in the presence of a teacher, aide or parent.
Implement the principles of first aid and be prepared to administer emergency treatment, when necessary.
Maintain order and discipline on the part of every student.
Permit a child to leave the bus only at a regular stop, except upon written request of parents or direction of school authorities.
Prepare an accident report immediately after every incident involving school bus passengers.
Assist students on and off the bus, as needed.
Assist the school, when necessary, in communicating with the home and vice-versa.
Notify the driver and the office in the event of absence.
Substitute for bus driver, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Maintain regular and reliable in-person attendance.
Terms of Employment
As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van BurenISD Board of Education.
