Job Summary
WJHG/WECP, the local leader in news and weather, is looking for a full‑time meteorologist to join our award‑winning weather team. The position requires knowledge and expertise in delivering weather across all platforms—including broadcast, streaming, and digital. Strong technical, social media, and on‑air communication skills are essential. A minimum of two years of professional meteorology experience is required.

Duties / Responsibilities

Creating accurate weathercasts for on‑air and all platforms, including web, social media, streaming, and broadcast.

Producing forecasts under the guidance of the Chief Meteorologist and News Director to follow station branding.

Filling in as needed on other shifts, including nights and weekends, and being present for any severe weather outbreaks under the guidance of Chief Meteorology and News Management.

Going live or reporting on weather/environmental events as directed by News Management.

Remaining calm, clear, and organized during breaking weather situations, with a commitment to accuracy and service to the community on all platforms daily and during severe weather.

Representing the station at community events, including speaking engagements, school visits, hosting trips to the news station, and other public appearances as directed by News Management.

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, with an emphasis on broadcast.

Prior professional experience as an on‑air meteorologist—entry‑level positions are not considered.

Strong on‑air communication skills with the ability to explain complex forecasts in an easy‑to‑understand format.

Professional social media skills.

Strong technical and writing skills.

Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
