Hourly Pay Rate: $12-15 per hour depending on education and experience

Job Summary / Basic Function
As a GEAR UP Part‑Time College Access Advisor, you will be one of the main people in your student’s life to help guide them from junior high and high school to college. The role involves recruiting students into the program, meeting with them regularly, hosting occasional workshops and events, providing important information, planning and chaperoning field trips, and equipping them with knowledge and skills needed to succeed in school and gain access to higher education.

You will collaborate closely with school staff and community partners, creating opportunities for students to explore higher education, find scholarships, apply for financial aid, and enroll in college. You will work independently with minimal oversight and communicate effectively with students, families, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Recruit students into the GEAR UP program.

Meet with students regularly to provide guidance and support.

Host workshops and educational events.

Plan and chaperone field trips.

Provide students and families with information on scholarships, financial aid, and college enrollment.

Collaborate with school staff and community partners to support student success.

Maintain confidential student information ethically.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education.

Must be available to work 22 hours per week during regular school hours.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Dependable, organized, collaborative, and able to follow instructions.

Ability to work with diverse groups.

Ability to handle confidential information ethically.

Ability to assist students and parents/guardians in a friendly and welcoming manner.

Willingness to learn and support the mission and growth of the GEAR UP program.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Equivalent of one year full‑time or part‑time work/volunteer experience with socially and economically disadvantaged and/or diverse student populations.

Spanish speaking is a plus.

Knowledge and experience with FAFSA and the financial aid process.

Experience or knowledge of K‑12 public education and higher education.

Physical Activity and Requirements
Physical Activity: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; standing, moving about to accomplish tasks, operating equipment, grasping, feeling. Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers may occur.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently. Predominantly sitting, with infrequent walking or standing.

Visual Acuity Requirements: Ability to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, using a computer terminal, and extensive reading.

Environmental Conditions: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions typical of office or administrative work.
