Position Title: GEAR UP College Access Advisor/Site Coordinator (North Layton & Sunset Junior High) (Part-time)

Hourly Pay Rate: $12–15 per hour depending on education and experience
Job Summary
Under the direction of the GEAR UP Program Director, the part‑time GEAR UP College Access Advisor/Site Coordinator will work with approximately 100–135 GEAR UP students, grades 7–9, in North Layton Junior High and Sunset Junior High in Davis school districts. The role is responsible for implementing the following grant objectives: increase academic performance and preparation for post‑secondary education; increase high‑school graduation rates and enrollment in post‑secondary education; increase Gater‑University students and families’ knowledge of post‑secondary education options, preparation, and financing. Must be available during junior‑high school hours, up to 28 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Recruit and enroll new program participants as needed.
Distribute and collect annual student & parent surveys and Senior Exit forms.
Provide individual advising in areas such as personal, academic, college planning, and career development.
Conduct college readiness workshops for students and parents.
Maintain accurate data on participant caseload and services delivered and produce additional reports as needed.
Stay informed of information and resources affecting students and parents, including scholarship opportunities, financial aid updates, and changes to college and university admissions procedures (e.g., UtahFutures).
Supervise and train a team of GEAR UP mentors and/or tutors (if applicable).
Help coordinate events such as college campus visits, career exploration at local businesses, etc.
Coordinate with the school’s GEAR UP Counselor Liaisons and establish positive, collaborative relationships with school faculty and staff to implement grant objectives.
Use technology and other methods to connect with students and parents/guardians regarding upcoming GEAR UP events and other initiatives as outlined.
Attend required training and conferences.
Required Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree required from an accredited institution of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of full‑time or part‑time work or volunteer experience with socially and economically disadvantaged and/or diverse student populations.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Subject matter expertise.
Dependable, organized, collaborative, and able to follow instructions.
Ability to work with diverse groups.
Ability to ethically handle confidential information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Ability to assist students and parents/guardians in a friendly and welcoming manner.
Willingness to learn and support the mission and growth of the GEAR UP program.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge and experience with FAFSA and the financial aid process.
Experience or knowledge of K‑12 public education.
Physical Activity
Extending hands and arms, standing, moving to accomplish tasks, operating equipment, conveying detailed instructions, repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers.
Physical Requirements
Sedentary work; occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds; primarily sitting with occasional walking or standing. Visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, using a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
Environmental Conditions
None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions typical of office or administrative work.
