Job Description
Shift: Night shift 3 (12) hr shift per week. Alternating holidays and weekends. Address: 601 E Rollins St Orlando Fl 32806

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine physical, psychological, and social health needs.

Develop individualized, evidence-based care plans with specific, measurable goals tailored to patient needs.

Implement care plans by providing direct patient care, including administering treatments and medications.

Monitor and evaluate patient progress, document outcomes, and adjust care plans as necessary to achieve desired health outcomes.

Educate patients and families about self-care techniques, disease management, and the use of medical equipment.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive care.

Develop and coordinate discharge plans to ensure continuity of care post-hospitalization, including educating patients and families on post-discharge care and resources.

Interpret monitor strips, analyze heart rate, rhythm, and other vital signs, and document findings accurately in the patient’s medical record.

Operate and ensure proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment, continuously monitoring patients and responding to abnormalities.

Document drug allergies and update patient medical records to prevent adverse reactions and ensure safe medication administration.

Maintain a clean and safe environment by following infection control protocols, regularly cleaning and disinfecting patient areas and equipment, and conducting routine safety checks.

Evaluate the quality of patient care, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance patient outcomes and ensure compliance with healthcare standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts, and techniques which are central to the nursing profession.

Administers all types of medications correctly per age group for all populations served according to policy.

Demonstrates proficient technical skills and operational knowledge of all equipment used on the unit.

Performs daily rotational task assignment as directed.

Supervises Nursing Assistants in the process of basic nursing functions (i.e., bed making, toileting, oral care, hair and nail care, baths, and comfort measures in accordance with the patient’s cultural needs). Demonstrates standard procedure for safe patient ambulation and transfers, and checking, turning, and repositioning bedfast, and or, incontinent patients every two hours.

Serves as a preceptor as necessary.

Communicates effectively, documents, and collaborates clearly and concisely patient data, initiates and implements phone and verbal physician orders promptly and accurately as needed.

Collaborates with the healthcare team including the Assistant Nurse Manager and/or Charge RN, other RNs, and physicians under confidentiality policy.

Participates in Care Plan input and timely collaboration to establish priorities in planning, organizing, and implementing patient care based on nursing assessment.

Recognizes emergency codes, adheres to infection control, life safety, and fire plan guidelines, considers age-specific safety concerns, and implements measures to meet these needs when they arise in collaboration with the RN. Supervises nursing assistant staff during these events.

Understands the Computerized Physician Order Entry Process and proficiently uses the electronic medical record for retrieval of patient information. Monitors Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results.

Provides necessary and appropriate education to the patient and family from admission through discharge, including medical and nursing plan of care, medications, tests and procedures, disease process, and discharge instructions. Initiates and documents the education provided including the patient response and outcomes. Initiates referrals to healthcare providers as necessary.

Accurate typing skills.

Medical terminology preferred.

Education

Associate’s of Nursing [Required]

Bachelor’s of Nursing [Preferred]

Work Experience

1+ nursing experience [Required]

2 years RN experience in a high-volume ICU setting with a focus on acutely ill patients [Preferred]
