The Opportunity
We are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for a
Maintenance Electrician
to join the on-site facilities team at
HMP Onley .
This role supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of electrical systems within a secure prison environment on behalf of His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). A weekend rota is in place (1 in 3 weekends), with an additional allowance payable for weekend working.
The Role
As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical maintenance across the site, helping to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
Key responsibilities include:
Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including associated administrative tasks
Fault finding and problem solving on a range of electrical systems
Like-for-like replacements and minor electrical works
Carrying out electrical inspections and testing in accordance with
BS7671 , with accurate recording of results
Ensuring all electrical systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational
Supporting the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when required
Ensuring Health & Safety standards, risk assessments, and safe systems of work are consistently followed
Assisting with escorting duties and other site-related tasks as required
About You
Essential requirements:
City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition considered with upskilling available)
Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
Experience in planned and preventative maintenance
Good organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Experience working to tight deadlines
Comfortable working at heights
Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
Basic IT skills
Desirable:
Experience with fire alarm and CCTV systems
Security Clearance
This position is subject to
Prison Security Clearance . Full support will be provided throughout the clearance process.
