Title: Finance and Data Analyst
Location: North Carolina, US
Hiring Range: $90,000-$105,000
Proposed Start Date: 06/01/2026
Position Overview
The CAS Financial Data Analyst role is for someone who likes to dig into messy data and figure out what’s actually going on. You enjoy being asked questions like “why does this look off?” or “can we understand this better?” and are comfortable doing both hands‑on reporting work and deeper analysis. You’ll work closely with our finance, HR, and leadership teams to: build and improve reporting, do deeper dives when something doesn’t add up, and help us figure out what we should be tracking—not just what we already are.
Key Responsibilities
Pull data from multiple systems and integrate it.
Build and refine reports and dashboards using Tableau or similar tools.
Answer complex questions that lack clean answers and work through them.
Spot inconsistencies or trends and dig deeper to explain them.
Partner with finance to understand how budgets and operations work.
Perform routine reporting while building toward more advanced analysis.
Fit for You
Early‑to‑mid‑career with desire to grow into a strategic analytics role.
Enjoy problem‑solving more than just report production.
Hands‑on: figure things out yourself.
Interested in finance, operations, and leadership decision‑making.
Currently at UNC (or similar) and looking for growth.
What This Role Is Not
Purely technical or engineering.
Purely strategic “sit in meetings all day”.
A fully polished data environment—you’ll help build it.
Primary Duties
Design and develop financial modeling, data visualization, and business intelligence solutions to support budgeting, reporting, and planning.
Prepare and analyze financial and budget reports to monitor compliance and performance.
Lead projects to test and implement new business processes related to finance, budgeting, and reporting.
Serve as liaison between finance and IT teams to align systems with strategic goals.
Support the development and implementation of a shared data strategy for the college.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s and 2‑4 years’ experience; or Bachelor’s and 3‑5 years’ experience; or a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications
Experience extracting, manipulating, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting large complex data sets.
In‑depth experience with a business intelligence reporting environment (Tableau preferred, SAS VA, OBIEE, Business Objects, or other).
Extensive knowledge of database, application systems analysis, and programming.
Strong problem‑solving ability for high‑complexity issues.
Planning, organizing, and adapting workload as needed.
Project management skills for complex projects involving multiple staff.
Consulting skills to translate market and industry trends into solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of higher education finance and business operations.
General knowledge of academic structures and familiarity with non‑financial data sources.
