
Staff Accountant I

Job Description
Position Summary
This role plays a key part in supporting the Credit Union’s daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the position works closely with accounting and finance partners to manage reconciliations, support month‑end close activities, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs daily balancing of cash accounts, performs research on variances, and coordinates timely resolution with departments across the Credit Union.
Performs various daily suspense account reconciliations.
Compiles and posts general ledger entries daily for several multiple functions.
Facilitates month end close process by supporting accounting and finance staff as needed.
May supports preparation of committee and board reporting.
Performs monthly reconciliation and research for selected balance sheet accounts.
Serves as primary backup for various accounting functions.
Ensures appropriate and accurate application of GAAP and accounting regulations adopted by federal and state regulators and internal policies.
Performs additional duties as required by management.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and work experience strongly preferred.
Minimum 1–3 years of accounting experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience with web‑based financial portal and general ledger system.
Prior experience with operating system‑based applications, including office software products strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles including account reconciliation, accruals, depreciation, credit union loan, deposit and investment accounting, cost centers, and allocations.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Disclosure:
$30.56-$41.35/hr.
