Position Overview

The Outside Service Manager oversees a team of field technicians responsible for delivering high‑quality customer service, equipment maintenance, and repair across our construction fleet. The role provides day‑to‑day leadership to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational standards and customer expectations.
Essential Functions

Oversee and direct a team of Field Technicians, providing leadership and support to optimize their performance and development.
Efficiently dispatch field technicians to various job sites, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet service demands.
Assist the Director of Operations in managing service‑related tasks, contributing to operational efficiency and success.
Supervise the opening and closing of work orders to ensure accurate tracking and control of each field job.
Monitor technician training progress and schedule on‑site and off‑site training as needed to enhance skills and compliance.
Ensure all technicians adhere to established safety policies and procedures, implementing disciplinary action when necessary.
Provide ongoing technical knowledge and guidance to field technicians to ensure effective performance and customer issue resolution.
Foster strong customer relationships by ensuring high‑quality service, proactive communication, and prompt issue response.
Collaborate with management to meet department performance metrics and continuously improve service delivery.
Complete administrative duties including logging service calls, creating purchase orders (POs), and ordering parts.

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma
2‑year technical certificate, 5 years of experience in heavy equipment service management, or a related college degree
PC proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office applications
Extensive equipment (OEM product) and maintenance knowledge
Valid Driver’s License
Strong organizational skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to build relationships and motivate people
Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable.

Combination of office, shop, and yard settings
Regular exposure to diesel engines, heavy equipment, and mechanical tools
High noise levels at times; ear protection may be required
Exposure to diesel fumes, lubricants, and other shop‑related chemicals
Occasional lifting, bending, and walking throughout the facility
PPE such as safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, gloves, and hearing protection frequently required
Variable temperatures depending on season and indoor/outdoor settings
Fast‑paced, hands‑on environment requiring strong leadership and adaptability
Standard business hours with occasional extended hours or weekend oversight
Frequent collaboration with technicians, service advisors, rental staff, and customers
Travel Required

Yes — 40% to 60% of the time
Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office, shop, and yard areas
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching to inspect equipment or support technicians
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally
Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment
Visual and auditory ability required for reading documents, working with computer screens, and communicating in noisy areas
Occasional exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, wind, and rain
Must safely navigate uneven terrain and work around heavy machinery
PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel‑toe boots may be required
