Job Description
POSITION TITLE:
Autism Support Specialist for the 2026-2027 School Year
POSITION DETAILS:
49%, 190 Days
LOCATION(S):
Central Office

Participates as a member of the educational team to design and supervise implementation of classroom programs for students with autism spectrum disorder
Collaborates and plans with autism programmatic placement teachers to develop and implement integrated instructional approaches to support the communication, social, and behavioral needs of the students
Collaborates, plans, and provides professional development for staff on topics to positively impact the delivery of support services to students with autism spectrum disorder
Provides consultation, coaching, or training to school personnel requesting support for academic and behavioral concerns for students served in autism or significantly developmentally delayed programs
Provides consultation regarding goal development, accommodations, and progress monitoring for supporting students served in the autism and significantly developmental delayed programs
Completes observations and makes recommendations for students being considered for placement in programmatic placement class for students with autism
Maintains class rosters for the programmatic placement classrooms
Works collaboratively with the transportation department
Evaluates the fidelity and consistency of implementation of behavior intervention plans and accommodations through observations, staff interviews, impact checks, and document review
Provides professional development to district level and school-based personnel on topics such as applied behavior analysis, discrete trial training, functional core communication, and social skills to positively impact service delivery model
Trains and coaches district level and school-based personnel in instructional strategies concerning executive functioning and social cognitive deficits consistent with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder
Trains and coaches district level and school-based personnel in appropriate use of visual supports and environmental modifications to meet the needs of students of autism spectrum disorder
Participates as a member of the system level Exceptional Education Leadership team and assists in the development of department initiatives
Assists with responding to and addressing exceptional education parental concerns, complaints and/or legal actions
Maintains appropriate documentation and submits reports as required
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:
Must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; Valid Georgia PSC issued certificate in field; Training and/or experience working with students with disabilities; Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
