Summary

Position eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Applicants must meet VHA eligibility requirements and submit an application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (1–5 years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Former participants are ineligible. A recruitment or relocation incentive may also be available for highly qualified candidates.
Qualifications

United States citizenship; non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree granted by a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification (or equivalent).
Physician Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and are not considered independent practitioners.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred experience: Prior VA primary‑care practice and prior supervisory experience.
Physical requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, and bend; mobile in an adequately lighted and climate‑controlled office or home space.
Must complete an online onboarding process; respond to time‑sensitive reports while balancing multiple demands.
Duties

Serve as the administrative and clinical lead for the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Service (SCI) at Hampton VAMC, Hampton, VA.
Provide a full range of PMR‑specific evaluations for the general SCI population and oversee clinical assessment and treatment plans.
Consult with VAPSHCS professional staff and community providers on clinical assessment findings and treatment recommendations.
Operate as an independent member of the VAPSHCS medical staff with full clinical privileges.
Educate veterans, families, and allied health trainees in SCI medicine and related care.
Maintain certification and licensure in the medical specialty and serve as a clinical leader in emergencies.
Advance the service mission through planning, organizing, directing, and controlling programs that improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with executive, managerial, and clinical leaders to formulate local policies, resource plans, and operational improvements.
Identify and propose long‑range needs and initiatives for executive‑level management consideration.
Monitor measurable outcomes and collaborate with Medical Center Management to meet program goals.
Serve on union leadership discussions regarding policies and organizational changes that affect the service.
Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
