Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full‑time contractual position is to provide substance‑related disorder services to clients of the Garrett County Center for Behavioral Health, including individual and group counseling services. This position completes substance use assessments/evaluations and may provide services at any approved office location or at a school location.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Alcohol and Drug Trainees.
Experience: None.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work as part of a treatment team.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
Within 90 days of hire, must apply for and receive a letter of authorization to practice as a trainee from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.
Must successfully obtain certification from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Supervised Counselor–Alcohol and Drug within one year of meeting the experience requirement for that certification.
May be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a valid Maryland driver’s license.
Special Requirements
Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
Work shall be performed in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.
Benefits
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible for paying the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
