Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher with emphasis at the middle school level
Michigan Department of Education School Administrative certificate
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least four years teaching at the middle school level
Three years successful administrative experience with multiple middle level experiences preferred
Evidence of active participation and leadership in professional organizations
Superior communication skills in writing and speaking
Collaborative leadership skills and ability to manage/organize multiple responsibilities
Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or Board of Education finds appropriate and acceptable
Responsibilities
Develops and administers school programs consistent with the school district goals and objectives
Provides leadership to positively affect the school culture by nurturing a safe and caring learning environment with high expectation for both academics and behavior
Personal commitment to academic excellence for all students' achievement
Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs including curricular and extra-curricular activities
Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development and student learning
Ensures that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field through workshops, professional meetings and self‑directed research
Encourages staff to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches and strategies to teaching
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law
Coordinates the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit student's needs, including students with special needs
Coordinates with the central office in recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action and other human resource issues
Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers for continuing development of instructional techniques
Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies
Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment
Demonstrates continuing awareness of effective instructional techniques and communicates this information to staff
Works cooperatively with other building administration to ensure quality programs
Assumes responsibility for recruitment and recommendations to human resource office concerning middle school staffing
Ensures staff development activities enhance the effectiveness of programs and services for the students and authorizes participation of staff in such activities
Keeps current of issues related to federal, state and any other rules, laws or legislation
Actively participates with state and county organizations for the improvement of services to students
Performs other duties as assigned
