Position Title
Admissions Counselor
Position Overview
The Admissions Counselor is an official representative of Marquette University involved in recruiting prospective students, contacting high school counselors, attending college fairs, and participating in campus events. The role includes reviewing freshman applications, responding to inquiries, and supporting day‑to‑day operations of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review applications for admission and scholarship decisions; offer or decline applications based on review by other counselors and a review committee member.
Answer prospective student inquiries via phone and email and provide excellent customer service to prospective students and families.
Represent the university to prospective students throughout the country through off‑site recruitment activities (high school visits, college fairs, informational nights, interviews).
Conduct informational/evaluative interviews with prospective students (freshman and transfers) and their families who visit the Marquette campus.
Increase the quality of university relations with assigned territory’s area high schools’ college counseling departments.
Represent the university to prospective students at on‑site open house programs.
Continuously update personal knowledge base about the university and its position in the marketplace, especially the university’s points of distinction and those of competitors.
Serve as (or provide assistance to) the liaison between the admissions office and some of the university’s schools, colleges or departments.
Manage or support recruitment activities in geographic territories.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A bachelor’s degree.
A valid driver’s license.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The ability to travel, including some weekends and evenings.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
One year of admissions‑related experience (preferred).
