Overview
Sonoma State University’s campus is located in Sonoma County wine country, one hour north of San Francisco. The School of Business offers practice-oriented programs including the Professional MBA and a Wine MBA concentration, with strong ties to the regional wine industry.
Responsibilities
Deliver instruction on BUS 565W – Marketing and Sales Strategies for Wine, integrating strategic marketing and sales concepts specific to the wine industry.
Contribute applied expertise in direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales, digital marketing, and distribution strategies.
Engage students through lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions grounded in real-world wine industry practice.
Support development and evaluation of marketing plans for wine across diverse market conditions.
Collaborate closely with the lead instructor to ensure alignment with course learning outcomes and academic standards.
Incorporate current industry trends, including e-commerce, global markets, regulatory considerations, and evolving consumer behavior.
Course may be offered online or hybrid flexible format.
Required Qualifications
Graduate degree (MBA or equivalent) in Business, Marketing, Wine Business, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional experience in wine marketing and sales strategy.
Significant professional experience in the wine or related beverage industry in marketing, sales strategy, or brand management.
Expertise in direct-to-consumer sales, CRM systems, digital marketing, and/or distribution within the wine sector.
Ability to translate industry experience into effective teaching and student engagement.
Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in any field of business.
Advanced professional leadership experience in the wine industry.
Prior university-level teaching or executive/professional education experience.
Experience developing or delivering curriculum in wine marketing, sales, or related areas.
Strong industry reputation and professional network within the wine business sector.
Experience working with graduate or MBA-level students.
Familiarity with online or hybrid teaching environments.
Rank and Salary
Part-time lecturer, 7.5 units per semester. Salary is based on units, degree level, and experience. Typical full-time monthly base salary (15 units) is $5,507 - $6,677, prorated to units worked.
