Position Description: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Shipping & Packaging Specialist to support outbound logistics for our drone manufacturing operations. This role ensures all drone systems, subassemblies, and components are packaged, crated, and shipped according to engineering instructions, regulatory standards, and customer requirements. Ideal candidates are hands-on, mechanically inclined, HAZMAT handling certified, and thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Accuracy Packaging, Crating & Work Instructions
Review and follow Bills of Material (BOM) and Engineering Packaging Work Instructions for every shipment.
Build, modify, and disassemble wood crates, foam inserts, and specialized packaging for drones and sensitive electronic components.
Execute packing processes for ESD-sensitive equipment, lithium batteries, and flight-critical systems.
Ensure all packaging meets internal quality standards, drop-test requirements, and regulatory expectations.
Shipping Execution
Prepare shipments for domestic and international delivery, including commercial freight, LTL, and small parcel.
Generate shipping labels, commercial invoices, packing lists, and export documentation.
Coordinate daily pickups with carriers and ensure on-time dispatch of all orders.
Track outbound shipments and proactively resolve delays with carriers or logistics partners.
HAZMAT & Compliance
Handle and package lithium batteries, UN3480/3481 materials, and other Class 9 hazardous goods in accordance with DOT, IATA, and internal SOPs.
Maintain valid HAZMAT certification (Class 9 preferred) and follow all safety protocols.
Ensure proper markings, labels, and documentation for dangerous goods shipments.
Material Handling & Equipment Operation
Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to move crates and large assemblies.
Lift, maneuver, and secure heavy or oversized items using appropriate rigging and safety techniques.
Maintain organized shipping and packaging areas according to 5S standards.
Documentation & ERP Transactions
Complete accurate shipping transactions in ERP/WMS systems.
Maintain records of shipments, crating logs, and packaging instructions for audit readiness.
Support engineering change implementation for packaging work instructions and BOM revisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure timely shipment of customer and internal orders.
Communicate shipping issues, material shortages, or instruction gaps to appropriate teams.
Support continuous improvement efforts in packaging methods, workflow, and safety.
Required Skills/Qualifications
2+ years of shipping, packaging, or logistics experience in manufacturing (electronics or aerospace preferred).
Ability to read and follow detailed BOMs, packaging drawings, and engineering work instructions.
Experience constructing, modifying, and disassembling wooden crates. Valid forklift certification; ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
Current HAZMAT certification, ideally Class 9/dangerous goods for lithium batteries.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling, documentation, and packaging.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
Proficiency with shipping software and ERP/WMS platforms.
Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to prioritize under pressure.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
Experience in drone/UAS, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing.
Knowledge of ITAR/EAR compliance and traceability requirements.
Lean/5S certification or experience; prior involvement in cycle count programs and inventory audits.
Forklift certification and familiarity with material handling equipment.
Able to operate forklift / to train to drive forklift

Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $32.00 an hour Hourly rate depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of salary or annual bonus.
