Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end processing of U.S. and Canada payroll (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or weekly cycles)
Ensure accuracy of wages, deductions, bonuses, commissions, and other pay elements
Manage payroll calendars and ensure timely processing and funding
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations
Oversee payroll tax filings, reporting, and reconciliations
Maintain SOX/internal controls and audit readiness (if applicable)
Stay current on legislative changes impacting payroll
Lead, develop, and manage payroll team members
Establish clear roles, expectations, and performance standards
Provide coaching and support to ensure a high-performing team
Systems & Process Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
Ensure data integrity between HRIS, timekeeping, and payroll systems
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with HR on employee changes, benefits deductions, and compensation updates
Collaborate with Finance/Accounting on payroll reconciliations and reporting
Support audits and provide payroll-related reporting and analytics
Reporting & Analytics
Prepare and review payroll reports, variance analysis, and metrics
Provide insights on payroll trends, costs, and efficiencies
Other Skills & Abilities

Excellent communication and analytical skills
Strategic thinking skills with strong business analytic skills
Must have very strong computer skills associated with the utilization of Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project
Other software skills as needed such as Visio, Access, Outlook etc.
Physical Requirements
Talking, hearing and using hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
Sitting for extended periods of time
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
Job will require punctual attendance and regular presence on-site at the assigned work location
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferred
7–10+ years of payroll experience, with multi-state U.S. payroll required
2–5+ years of leadership experience
Experience in a mid-to-large, multi-site organization preferred
Certifications & Licenses
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC
