The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans' Home welcomed its first resident in 1896. Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents. The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic home-like environment, enhancing health and yielding optimal quality of life. To do this and meet the unique needs of these heroes and their families, we deliver compassionate and comprehensive skilled care while integrating arts and cultural programming and preserving the rich history of the Home.
Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $17.80 - $25.80 per hour, based on education and/or experience.
A Day in the Life:
Administers medications and treatments in accordance with all accepted standards for administration
Destroys and documents same for discontinued medications
Maintains correct count for controlled substances
Provides safe, efficient personal care of residents as directed on aide assignment
Care may include, but is not limited to: bathing, showering, positioning, feeding, transferring, toileting, nail care, hair care, range of motion
Uses recommended safety devices and follow infection control standards
Adheres to resident's rights at all times
Documents medications and treatments administered, and care provided
Assists with orientation of new employees on the unit
Takes vital signs
Participates in resident care planning and reports unusual behaviors, signs
Assists with resident transportation to and from in-facility and out-of-facility appointments
Puts residents' clean clothing away and updates inventory records
Cleans assigned areas and resident equipment/supplies on the unit
What You'll Need for Success:
Must be certified as a Nurse Aide and must be certified and maintain certification as a QMA
Must maintain first aid and CPR certification
Ability to understand and communicate with residents and understand and complete nursing forms
Ability to follow verbal instructions; ability to provide basic nursing care practices
Ability to use medical equipment within the scope of certification
Ability to provide safe, efficient resident care, following all applicable state and Veterans' Administration rules, IVH policies and procedures, and all HIPAA rules
Must attend and complete all required in-service training
Ability to prioritize workload
Ability to be flexible
Ability to recognize basic changes in a resident condition and report to the nurse
Ability to administer medications and treatments in a safe, efficient manner, recognizing medication side effects and reporting the same
