The Kent County Probate Court is seeking a Clerk III to provide skilled clerical and administrative support. This role requires extensive procedural and substantive knowledge of court operations, legal requirements, and financial processes. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Chief Deputy Probate Register, Probate Register & Administrator, and Chief Probate Judge, assisting with case filings, customer inquiries, and record management.
This position offers a structured yet dynamic work environment where accuracy, professionalism, and strong organizational skills are essential.
Primary responsibilities include:
Serving as the first point of contact for the public, legal professionals, and other agencies, assisting with court-related inquiries in person, by phone, email, or written correspondence.
Examining and analyzing court documents for compliance with legal statutes, court rules, and filing procedures.
Maintaining electronic and physical records using a computerized case management system.
Processing, posting, and reconciling financial transactions related to court filings and fees.
Preparing and maintaining statistical and financial reports in compliance with department procedures.
Reviewing and verifying documents for accuracy, correcting errors, and reconciling discrepancies.
Assisting in processing and organizing case files, maintaining logs and indexes of court records.
Providing administrative support, including data entry, document processing, and word processing tasks.
Performing general clerical duties and additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in a legal or court setting.
Strong knowledge of office protocols and court procedures.
Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with case management software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and legal terminology.
Sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail when handling sensitive legal matters.
Accurate mathematical skills for processing financial transactions.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Degree.
Experience working within Probate Court or another legal setting.
Knowledge of county and state regulations affecting probate filings.
