Position Summary
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing all accounting operations within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for financial reporting, cost accounting oversight, internal controls, and driving process improvements. The position partners closely with plant leadership and operations to ensure accurate financial data, inventory integrity, and cost visibility to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Support and manage the
monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Oversee
cost accounting functions , including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
Review and approve
journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
Ensure accuracy and control over
inventory accounting , including cycle counts and physical inventory processes
Analyze and report on
manufacturing variances
(labor, overhead, material, scrap, PPV)
Partner with plant operations to evaluate
production performance, cost drivers, and efficiency improvements
Assist in the development and monitoring of
budgets, forecasts, and financial models
Maintain and enhance
internal controls
and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
Support
internal and external audits , including SOX compliance where applicable
Drive
process improvements and automation initiatives
within accounting and reporting
Supervise and mentor
accounting staff , providing guidance and performance feedback
Collaborate cross-functionally with
operations, supply chain, procurement, and FP&A
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting or Finance
6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong exposure to
manufacturing environments
Solid understanding of
cost accounting, inventory management, and standard costing
Experience with
ERP systems
(SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar)
Advanced proficiency in
Excel and financial analysis tools
CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
