Substation Engineer

This opportunity sits within a well-established power delivery team supporting utility substation projects across the U.S. The group operates in a consulting environment, partnering closely with utility clients to support engineering, design, and project execution from concept through construction.

Responsibilities
Support the development of substation physical design deliverables, including general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, BOMs, and as-built drawings.
Assist with engineering calculations and studies, including short circuit, load flow, grounding, and equipment sizing.
Contribute to physical substation design efforts, including layout development, clearances, grounding, and equipment integration.
Support coordination between physical and P&C design to ensure constructability and system functionality.
Apply engineering tools for equipment sizing, grounding design, and system studies.
Work with project teams to help track schedules and maintain deliverables.
Ensure designs follow applicable NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
Maintain accurate project documentation and drawing records.
Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project teams to support delivery.
Participate in site visits and field exposure to support construction and design validation.
Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
4–8 years of substation engineering or design experience.
Experience with substation physical design, including layouts, equipment arrangements, clearances, and grounding.
Basic understanding of protective relays, metering, and control systems.
Familiarity with substation equipment (transformers, breakers, switches, bus, etc.) and design documentation.
Exposure to engineering studies (short circuit, grounding, load flow).
Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI standards.
Ability to manage tasks across multiple projects and work within a team environment.
Strongly Preferred
Experience in a consulting or utility environment.
Strong experience with physical substation design, including equipment layout and grounding.
Exposure to P&C design and coordination.
EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
Experience supporting construction or field activities.
