Job Overview
Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Material Planner is responsible for the procurement of goods and/or raw materials. Supports cost down initiatives, payment terms and supplier contracts. Ensure no delays to production.
Responsibilities
Responsible for all purchasing functions related to the procurement of goods and/or raw materials as assigned, including order placement and follow up.
Negotiate lead times with vendors and resolves daily supplier issues.
Expedite orders to ensure no delays to production, attends daily production shortage meetings.
Reviews material quantities and dates required determining accurate start and completion dates and communicates any issues to management.
Supports and participates in business improvements including Lean and 5S activities as required.
Plan and place material purchase orders to ensure that material flow to the plant is in line with the customer demand/company plan (MPS/MRP), with the use of schedules, consignment stock, kanban, and other order systems as required.
Investigation and approval of Supplier Invoice Issues.
Actively manage Supplier Delivery performance through the use of KPIs and routine performance reviews with critical suppliers.
Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required within the scope of the role.
Requirements
High School Diploma with 7+ years of experience.
3+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a related position.
1+ year suppliers follow up and execution ownership.
1+ year basic Excel proficiency (not advanced formulas)
1+ year ERP experience: SAP or Oracle
Core Competencies
Proven materials management and purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proven track record of hitting inventory reduction targets and project implementation.
Experience of scheduling, MRP, MPS and consignment stocking.
Demonstrative proactive approach and initiative in problem solving.
Ability to communicate and interface diplomatically and effectively with all levels of the organization, external suppliers etc.
Able to work on own initiative and as a member of a small team.
Preferences
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle or preferably SAP
Purchasing or Material Certifications and/or membership
Procurement for assembly manufacturing or distribution experience.
Travel & Work Arrangements / Requirements
Full‑time, Onsite
Pay Range
The pay range for this role is $64,000–$78,000. The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate’s skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
