Utility Operator

Your responsibilities
Work safely and follow all plant safety rules, regulations, and policies.
Ensure all government, American Institute of Baking, and business unit sanitation requirements are consistently met.
Train and become qualified to fill vacant operator positions.
Assist all employees with mill problems as necessary.
Maintain reliability, integrity, compliance, and an environmentally responsible and efficient work environment.
Understand and follow all personnel and equipment safety policies, GMP, HACCP, sanitation policies, and business unit procedures.
Use computers to enter data into the plant control system and operate computer process controls.
Dump out 50‑pound malt bags and operate chain hoists, pallet jacks, and fork trucks.
Follow verbal and written instructions and communicate with peers and supervisors in English.
Pick up spilled product (e.g., wheat, screenings, flour, mill stocks, feed) using shovels or barrels.
Perform repair work on sifters during mill repair days.
Keep assigned work area clean, tidy, and uncluttered.
Perform other related tasks or functions as assigned by management.
Essential skills and experience
Analytical skills to recognize and assess problems.
High school diploma or GED.
Interpersonal skills—including communication and team skills.
Ability to meet strict deadlines and schedules.
Ability to organize own work to complete daily job assignments.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Problem‑solving skills to correct problems found.
Ability to keep accurate records and reports.
Communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
Physical requirements and working conditions
Ascend and descend stairs multiple times per day.
Climb ladders, steps, and extensions.
Lift to 50 pounds and exert 20 pounds of force.
Frequently stand, walk, rotate, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, balance, and reach at shoulder level and below.
Perform physical job duties that may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely.
Work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions that may include heat, cold, dust, and loud noise, with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including a dust mask.
Work in elevated areas (4 feet and above).
Clean shaven to perform tasks where respiratory protection is required and to ensure a proper seal for a respirator (including N‑95 dust mask).
