NCVPS: ELA - 6th Grade - Quality Assurance Editor (Internal)
The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) was established by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an online community service K‑12 public school for students throughout the state of North Carolina. NCVPS is governed by the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) and reports on a day‑to‑day basis to the NCDPI Chief Academic Officer. As a result of NCVPS’ work, students in the public schools of North Carolina have access to online courses that are unavailable due to teacher shortages or scheduling conflicts. These courses provide students with equity of access to a high‑quality educational experience regardless of where they live within the state.

Expectations
NCVPS is looking for highly qualified NC‑certified educators to serve as subject‑matter experts on course development teams. Qualified applicants should be knowledgeable of course design frameworks such as the Universal Design for Learning principles, Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and backward design. Applicants should also have a strong understanding of curriculum standards and experience creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problem‑based learning, real‑world examples, authentic assessments, and more. High organization and self‑management skills are required, and applicants must own a personal computer, phone or other communication device, and Internet access.

Duties and Responsibilities

Complete asynchronous training and attend course development collaborative Zoom training sessions. Training will occur June 23rd–July 13th. CEUs will be issued for successful completion of the training course.

Be knowledgeable of and follow NCVPS requirements, federal and state laws, and/or guidelines regarding copyright, Fair Use, and accessibility; and report any violations to NCVPS staff.

Review content for accuracy, alignment with standards and learning objectives, and consider audience and engagement.

Read, watch, and interact with all content from the perspective of an editor to ensure professional writing standards are met.

Complete all activities and assessments from the perspective of a student, providing completed work as "student exemplars".

Evaluate the appropriateness of rubrics and answer keys from the perspective of an instructor.

Uphold all NCVPS guidelines and procedures outlined in the training course and workshop, meet all deadlines, and communicate with the assigned staff member(s) when a deadline cannot be met.

This position is an online (remote) role.

It is a contract‑based position.

A current NC teaching license for the applicable curriculum area and grade level is required.

NC ELA 6‑9 licenses are preferred.

Applications submitted by internal applicants will be screened and interviewed first.

Phase 1: 07/13/26 – 08/03/26; Payment upon completion: $1,125

Phase 2: 09/07/26 – 09/28/26; Payment upon completion: $1,125

Phase 3: 10/19/26 – 11/09/26; Payment upon completion: $1,125

Phase 4: 12/07/26 – 01/11/27; Payment upon completion: $1,125

Final Walkthrough: 01/25/27 – 02/08/27; Payment upon completion: $500

Licensing Requirement

The North Carolina State Board of Education requires teachers who teach for NCVPS to have a current NC Professional Educator’s Teaching License in the subject areas in which they are applying. Time spent as a NCVPS teacher does not count toward an SP1 license becoming an SP2 license.

There are no benefits associated with the NCVPS part‑time contracted positions.
