Job Description

The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is an online K-12 public school that provides students across the state with high‑quality courses when classroom options are limited. NCVPS is governed by the North Carolina State Board of Education and reports daily to the NCDPI Chief Academic Officer.
Expectations

NCVPS seeks highly qualified NC‑certified educators to act as subject‑matter experts on course development teams. Candidates should be knowledgeable in course design frameworks such as the Universal Design for Learning principles, Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and backwards design. They should also possess a strong understanding of curriculum standards and experience creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problem‑based learning, real‑world examples, authentic assessments, and more. Candidates must have high organization and self‑management skills and own a personal computer, phone or other communication device, and reliable Internet access.
Responsibilities

Complete asynchronous training and attend collaborative Zoom training sessions (June 23 – July 13). CEUs will be awarded upon successful completion.
Follow NCVPS requirements, federal and state laws, and guidelines regarding copyright, fair use, and accessibility; report any violations to NCVPS staff.
Review content for accuracy, alignment with standards and learning objectives, and audience engagement.
Read, watch, and interact with all content from an editor’s perspective to ensure professional writing standards are met.
Complete all activities and assessments from a student’s perspective and provide the completed work as student exemplars.
Evaluate the appropriateness of rubrics and answer keys from an instructor’s perspective.
Uphold all NCVPS guidelines and procedures, meet deadlines, and communicate with assigned staff when a deadline cannot be met.
Important Information

This is an online (remote) position.
This is a contract‑based position.
A current NC teaching license (in the relevant curriculum area and grade level) is required.
Applications submitted by internal applicants will be screened and interviewed first.
Task Phases and Payments

Phase 1: July 13 – August 3, 2026 – $1,125 upon completion.
Phase 2: September 7 – September 28, 2026 – $1,125.
Phase 3: October 19 – November 9, 2026 – $1,125.
Phase 4: December 7, 2026 – January 11, 2027 – $1,125.
Final Walkthrough: January 25 – February 8, 2027 – $500.
License Requirements

NCVPS teachers must hold a current NC Professional Educator’s Teaching License in the subject area(s) they are applying to teach. Time spent as an NCVPS teacher does not count toward SP2 license status.
Provide evidence of your NC teaching license and any relevant certifications when applying.
NCVPS does not offer benefits for part‑time contracted positions.
