Job Description
Position:

LTS Instructional Assistant

Organizational Scope:

Instructional Assistants report to the building principal and work at the direction of the classroom teacher. Through a lens of equity, they provide students assistance in classroom and school activities consistent with their needs and the specific role of the Instructional Assistant. IAs may support inclusion classrooms, special programs, or the regular curriculum.

Position Responsibilities

Supports academic development by providing appropriate instruction and learning experiences for each individual or small group of students, as self-initiated or directed by the classroom teacher.

Presents skills and tactics that support success in content areas.

Utilizes a wide range of teaching strategies, materials and resources.

Works closely with the teacher(s) to coordinate classroom work and homework.

Implements assistive technology, if needed.

Facilitates interactions between students.

Attend training workshops as assigned, and participate in school-based staff development.

Assists with implementing behavior intervention.

Assists with mobility, transitioning and personal care as needed.

Physically manages students, if needed.

May provide other duties as required.

Job Qualifications
High School Diploma required; Associates or Bachelors Degree in education preferred.

Physical Demands
Most work is performed in a typical school and classroom environment requiring physical effort consistent with the assignment. This may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of classroom settings, such as proximity to students and colleagues, temperature variations, frequent interruptions and moderate noise. Some work is performed in other areas of the school, such as the cafeteria, recess areas or other common areas. Ability to walk, stand, or stoop sufficient to instruct students, including young students. The ability to work on site in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job.

Terms of Employment, Evaluation of Performance, and Salary
The Instructional Assistant is a Nashoba Regional School District Unit C position. Terms of employment, including evaluation and salary, are covered by the provisions of the Unit C collective bargaining agreement currently in effect. Compensation is based on education and experience.
