Job Description
Reports To:

Principal

Supervises:

May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose:

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management of Instructional Time:

The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson, gets the class started quickly, and maintains a high level of student time-on-task.

Management of Student Behavior:

Establish and enforce rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, and movement; monitor behavior; stop inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining dignity.

Instructional Presentation:

Begin lessons with a review, introduce objectives, present materials clearly, use relevant examples, assign tasks, ask appropriate questions, conduct lessons at a brisk pace and summarize the main points.

Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:

Maintain standards, circulate during classwork to check performance, use oral, written and other work products to check progress.

Instructional Feedback:

Provide feedback on in-class and out-of-class work, affirm correct oral responses, and provide sustaining feedback for incorrect responses.

Facilitating Instruction:

Use instructional plans aligned with curricular goals, use diagnostic information, maintain records, match objectives with learning strategies and assessment.

Interacting Within the Educational Environment:

Treat all students fairly, interact effectively with students, colleagues, parents and community.

Performing Non-Instructional Duties:

Carry out non-instructional duties, adhere to laws and regulations, follow professional development plan, demonstrate growth.

Additional Job Functions
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related area that qualifies for licensure by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Must not be on the NC DPI list of teachers no longer qualified or in a certification revocation hearing process.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards

Physical Requirements:

Ability to use various equipment, lift/ carry objects, stand and walk, light work.

Data Conception:

Ability to compare and judge data characteristics.

Interpersonal Communication:

Ability to listen and respond to instructions and information.

Language Ability:

Ability to read various documents and prepare correspondence.

Intelligence:

Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to solve problems.

Verbal Aptitude:

Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of languages and contexts.

Numerical Aptitude:

Ability to use mathematical formulas, percentages, statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Inspect items for proper dimensions.

Motor Coordination:

Coordinate hands and eyes for office equipment.

Manual Dexterity:

Handle office equipment and hand tools.

Color Discrimination:

Differentiate between colors.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Deal with people under stress.

Physical Communication:

Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.

Constantly monitor safety and well-being of students.

Motivate students.

Maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Perform general clerical duties.

Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
