Job Description
Reports To:
Principal
Supervises:
Teacher assistants (may coordinate and direct their activities)
Purpose:
Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Management of Instructional Time:
Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment at lesson start; begin lessons quickly; maintain students on task; sustain high level of student time‑on‑task.
Management of Student Behavior:
Establish rules, procedures, and monitoring for interactions, verbal participation, and movement; enforce routines promptly while maintaining student dignity.
Instructional Presentation:
Review prior materials, introduce objectives; communicate clearly; provide examples, demonstrate concepts; give tasks with high success rate; ask suitable questions; pace lessons efficiently; summarize key points.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
Set clear standards; circulate during classwork to check performance; use oral, written, and other records to gauge progress.
Instructional Feedback:
Provide timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work; affirm correct responses; offer corrective guidance when needed.
Facilitating Instruction:
Create instructional plans aligned with school goals; use assessment data; maintain accurate records; support instruction with available resources.
Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
Treat all students fairly; collaborate with students, coworkers, parents, and community members.
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
Complete non‑instructional tasks as assigned; adhere to policies; pursue professional development; demonstrate growth.
Additional Job Functions:
Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related field qualifying for North Carolina licensure; not on the NCDPI list of unqualified teachers.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required
Physical Requirements: Ability to use classroom equipment and move objects with negligible force; meet Light Work standards.
Data Conception, Interpersonal Communication, Language Ability, Intelligence, Verbal Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude, Form/Spatial Aptitude, Motor Coordination, Manual Dexterity, Color Discrimination, Interpersonal Temperament, Physical Communication – all require relevant abilities (details omitted for brevity).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
Motivate students.
Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties.
