May coordinate and direct teacher assistants.
Purpose
To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills necessary for their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage instructional time: prepare materials, get class started quickly, and maintain high student time‑on‑task.
Manage student behavior: establish and enforce rules, monitor behavior, intervene consistently while maintaining dignity.
Instructional presentation: review previous material, introduce lessons and objectives, present content clearly, use examples and demonstrations, assign tasks with high success rates, ask appropriate questions, pace instruction, transition smoothly, clarify assignments, and summarize main points.
Instructional monitoring of student performance: set standards, circulate to check performance, use oral and written checks, and pose clear questions.
Instructional feedback: provide feedback on correctness, prompt out‑of‑class work, affirm correct responses, and support incorrect or no responses with probing or additional time.
Facilitate instruction: plan aligned to curriculum goals, use diagnostic data, maintain records, align objectives, learning strategies, assessment, and student needs, and utilize available resources.
Interact within the educational environment: treat students fairly and interact effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.
Perform non‑instructional duties: carry out assigned duties, comply with laws and policies, pursue professional development, and demonstrate growth.
Other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Not on the NCDPI no‑qualify list and not under revocation hearing.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Physical: light work requirements, minimal force needed.
Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, physical communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Monitor safety and well‑being of students in inclusive activities.
Motivate students.
Maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Perform general clerical duties.
Maintain order and discipline in the classroom.
Operate common office machines.
Maintain basic files and records.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Job Requirements
Bachelor degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
