Job Description
Purpose:

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
A. Major Function: Management of Instructional Time

The teacher ensures materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson are ready at the start of instruction, starts the class quickly, brings students on task quickly at the beginning, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.

B. Major Function: Management of Student Behavior

The teacher establishes a set of rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, and movement during various activities, monitors student behavior during all instructional activities and transitions, stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.

C. Major Function: Instructional Presentation

The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and learning objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks that students handle with a high success rate, asks appropriate questions, conducts instruction at a brisk pace, manages transitions smoothly, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes the lesson at the end.

D. Major Function: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance

The teacher sets clear work standards and due dates, circulates during classwork to check performance, uses oral, written, and other work products to check progress, and poses questions clearly and one at a time.

E. Major Function: Instructional Feedback

The teacher gives feedback on in‑class work correctness, provides prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct oral responses, and sustains feedback after incorrect responses by probing, repeating, giving clues, or allowing more time.

F. Major Function: Facilitating Instruction

The teacher maintains an instructional plan aligned with school and system‑wide goals, uses assessment data to refine objectives, keeps accurate records, matches objectives, strategies, assessments, and student needs, and uses available resources to support instruction.

G. Major Function: Interacting Within the Educational Environment

The teacher treats all students fairly and equitably, and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.

H. Major Function: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties

The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws, policies, and regulations, pursues professional development, and demonstrates evidence of growth.

Additional Job Functions:

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified to teach or currently engaged in a certification revocation hearing process.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Physical Requirements:

Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools, exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, and consistent with light work due to standing and walking time.

Data Conception:

Ability to compare and judge data, people, or things based on functional or structural characteristics.

Interpersonal Communication:

Ability to speak or signal to convey information and receive directions from superiors.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and prepare various correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, and instructional materials.

Intelligence:

Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions, and manage variables.

Verbal Aptitude:

Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in technical or professional languages.

Numerical Aptitude:

Ability to use mathematical formulas, operate on decimals and percentages, and apply descriptive and inferential statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Ability to inspect items for correct length, width, and shape.

Motor Coordination:

Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately using office equipment.

Manual Dexterity:

Ability to handle items such as office equipment and hand tools with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination:

Ability to differentiate colors and shades.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Ability to deal with people beyond giving instructions, adaptable to stress and emergencies.

Physical Communication:

Ability to talk and hear and use telephone communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially when participating in inclusive activities; motivate students; maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties; maintain order and discipline; operate common office machines; keep records; follow oral and written instructions; and establish effective working relationships as required.

Job Requirements

Bachelor degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
