Job Summary
Seasonal Ranger I responsible for patrolling facilities, enforcing regulations, providing visitor services, maintaining equipment, assisting in search and rescue, and supporting park operations. The position works a full‑time schedule with a second shift, requires working weekends and holidays outdoors in all weather.

Duties

Patrol facilities on foot, bicycle, or vehicle; enforce laws and regulations; provide visitor information.

Coordinate with law enforcement for regulatory action as needed.

Conduct patrols to enforce applicable laws, provide visitor services, assess resources, assist visitors with first aid, and perform other public services.

Maintain inventory and condition of issued equipment.

Complete bureau records, reports, files, and logs.

Attend seminars, workshops, and training sessions to maintain proficiencies.

Participate in search and rescue operations per agency policy.

Provide informal and formal educational programs to schools and civic groups.

Respond to major incidents, snow and ice operations, special events, and statewide incidents.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

At least two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in park or resource management, environmental education, water resources, natural/cultural history interpretation, or related field.

Current valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.

Current valid CPR certificate from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Current valid standard first aid and personal safety certificate and first responder certificate issued by the American Red Cross.

Ability to understand, explain, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of standard procedures and techniques for foot, auto, or other patrols.

Knowledge of principles and practices of park or resource management.

Knowledge of recreational programming.

Knowledge of general ecology and cultural history.

Experience presenting media productions, drafting brochures, and exhibits.

Ability to explain regulations clearly to the public.

Ability to gather information through records, observation, and interviews.

Education/Substitutions
An associate's degree or higher with a major in park or recreation management, natural resource management, water resources management, environmental education, or park interpretation may substitute for the required experience. Education toward such a degree is prorated on the basis of completed requirements.
