
Screed Operator

Job Description Summary
Crew member essential to the application of asphalt on highways, private roadways, parking lots, and driveways through the operation of screed controls.
Requirements
Operation of the asphalt paver, making normal adjustments to obtain proper depth, grade, and finish of asphalt material via screed extensions.
Partner with other crew members to apply asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks of other positions as instructed by crew foreman to ensure daily schedules and estimates are met.
May perform other related duties such as adding or removing screed extensions.
Use tools including brooms, pick, mattock, axe, brush hook, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer or drill, tamps (manual and power-driven), sample saw, concrete saw, sledge hammer, and other tools needed to complete jobs within specifications.
Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours; normal shift is 8–12 hours.
Attendance required per company attendance policy to ensure crew efficiency.
Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co‑workers, customers, and the public.
Be flexible with last‑minute schedule changes, location changes, shift time changes; overtime work may be required. Out‑of‑town, out‑of‑county, or out‑of‑state work may be required.
Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and keep individual PPE in functional condition.
Initiate and assist with other positions for job completion; periodic use of truck to transport water, fuel, and/or bituminous emulsions.
Pass a drug test and criminal background check.
Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
CDL preferred.
Two years of road construction experience.
