Primary Function
This position will operate screed on asphalt paver. You will make normal operating adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section. May perform other related duties to include adding or removing screed extensions. Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting. Requires regular lifting of 25 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Uses tools such as shovel, hand/motorized tamp. Walking and standing each occupy 50% of the work day. Overtime work is required. May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather. Requires riding to and from job sites. The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented. This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman.
Position Requirements
Operates screed on asphalt paver. Makes normal operating adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section.
May perform other related duties to include adding or removing screed extensions.
May occasionally operate paving equipment, including power broom, plate compactor, paving machine, shuttle buggy and/or vibratory roller.
Maintains, oils, greases, services and makes normal operating adjustments to equipment.
Other miscellaneous duties include but not limited to equipment maintenance, assisting foreperson and/or crew members as needed.
Ability to follow directions.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, inspectors, engineers, and the general public at all times.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Report to the assigned job site in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in company policy and OSHA/MSHA regulations.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Pass a pre‑employment "Fit for Work" physical.
Be able to provide valid documentation for the I‑9 immigration document.
Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements.
Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
Must be able to physically stand long periods of time.
Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
Be at least 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
1 year experience as a screed operator preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
